*Symbolic objects, made with data from the heart*

For Totem, Julie de Ruijter and Beer van Geer created sixteen extraordinary objects. Each object is based on the heart rate of a different human being. Together they form a circle: sixteen textile works in the shape of rolls, which softly light up. When you step inside, the space feels both silencing and inviting.

The heart connects what we can touch with what we can only feel. The heart rate is as unique as a fingerprint and changes all the time. From this, a contemporary ritual emerged, which brings you back to your intuition and to the way everything changes constantly.

In many cultures, major transitions are celebrated with rituals and symbols: coming of age, birth, death. Such moments require attention. If you give them space, you notice how your own rhythm is connected to that of everything around you. But you can only feel that when you pay attention to it.
